La casa se encuentra en una zona conurbada en el estado de México donde todo se hace por autoconstrucción y es muy raro que alguien recurra a la ayuda de profesionales, en este caso, un arquitecto. Pero ésta también fue una de las razones de porque necesitaban de nuestra ayuda, como ya se mencionó, aquí abunda la autoconstrucción y las casas son “diseñadas” por los mismos albañiles que en realidad y sin denigrar su trabajo, lo único que en realidad les interesa es empezar a construir…lo que sea, con tal de empezar a cobrar. Por lo tanto, la casa esta tan mal distribuida que no encontraban una manera de poner unas escaleras hacia el segundo sin arruinar el pequeño espacio que tenían para estacionar sus 2 autos.
En cuanto a lo estructural, por suerte la casa estaba pensada originalmente para ser un edificio de departamentos de al menos 3 niveles, por lo que a la hora de construirlo el maestro contratado puso algunas trabes de hasta 45 cm y columnas bastante grandes, por lo que cargar el peso de un nivel extra no sería ningún problema.
La casa por lo tanto quedó dividida en 2 espacios: la planta baja como vivienda familiar y planta alta como oficina. Para este nuevo espacio (la oficina) y como se puede apreciar en los planos, el acceso es a través de una escalera de caracol en el extremo inferior derecho de la construcción (ya que una de las peticiones fue que se pudiera acceder a la parte superior a través del interior de la casa en planta baja). Al subir a la oficina y salir de la escalera lo primero que nos recibe es un sanitario general que se encuentra justo sobre el baño familiar en planta baja, lo que facilita las conexiones y aminora los costos de instalaciones. El hecho de que el baño de las oficinas quede afuera de éstas, es un acierto que consideramos de bastante importancia, ya que otorga la mayor de la privacidad entre los trabajadores y al mismo tiempo le da total independencia para ser usado, en caso necesario, como baño de visitas para los habitantes en planta baja.

Therefore, the house is so poorly laid out that they couldn't find a way to put a stairs to the second floor without ruining the small space that was left to park their 2 cars.
As for the structural, luckily the house was originally intended to be an apartment building of at least 3 levels, so, when it was built, the contracted builder put some beams of up to 45 cm and quite large columns, so carrying the weight of an extra level would be no problem.
The house was therefore divided into 2 spaces: the ground floor as a family home and the upper floor as an office. For this new space (the office) and as can be seen in the plans, access is via a spiral staircase in the lower right corner of the building (since one of the requests was that the part could be accessed through the interior of the house on the ground floor). When we go up to the office and exit the stairs, the first thing that greets us is a general toilet that is located just above the family bathroom on the ground floor, which facilitates connections and reduces installation costs. The fact that the bathroom of the offices is outside of these, is a success that we consider to be quite important, since it grants the greatest privacy among workers and at the same time gives it total independence to be used, if necessary, as a guest bathroom for the inhabitants on the ground floor.
